Issued at 216 AM CDT Mon Mar 23 2026 An upper level ridge will weakly amplify across Western CONUS this afternoon. An upper level shortwave will traverse the main stream dropping down into the Northern Plains. Majority of the upper level wave will remain in Manitoba keeping western and central North Dakota dry. A cold front will follow through with this wave shifting winds from the southeast to the northwest. High temperatures will warm ahead of the cold front this afternoon into the mid 40s across the north to the lower 60s in the southwest. Pressure rises are stronger further east so there could be breezy winds in eastern half of the state while the west will remain around 10 mph. Tuesday the ridge will amplify a bit more over Western CONUS keeping the Northern Plains in northwesterly flow aloft. Another wave will move through the region giving western and central North Dakota a shot at rain snow mix by Tuesday night. This system will move across the state Wednesday with precipitation chances around 20 south to 50 percent north. Rain is the likely precipitation type across the southern half of the state while light snow accumulations up to an inch are possible along the International Border. Precipitation will linger into the early morning hours of Thursday. Wednesday is also forecast to be the warmest day until the weekend as a warm front move through the region bringing forth temperatures from 40 in the northeast half of the county warning area to the lower 70s in the southwest. Breezy conditions are possible Wednesday into Thursday. The upper level ridge is forecast to flatten by Thursday.
