Otherwise, dry conditions prevail through Monday as an upper trough off the coast enters the Pacific Northwest. Temperatures are expected to be similar to today with highs slightly below normal. Smoke from wildfires will continue across the region. No updates. && .AVIATION...Areas of MVFR and local IFR in smoke. Surface winds: W- NW 5-15 kts across SE Oregon overnight and variable less than 10 kts elsewhere. Winds aloft at 10kft MSL: W-SW 10-20 kt. KBOI...Low-VFR at times in smoke. Light diurnal surface winds, SE overnight and NW during the day. && .PREV DISCUSSION... SHORT TERM...Tonight through Tuesday night...Smoke from wild fires will continue over the area through Monday. However...winds are starting to shift to a more westerly direction and smoke is expected to thin out a bit on Monday and Tuesday. The change in wind direction will shift smoke from the Park Fire in California so that it will stay south of the Nevada border. A weak cold front will approach the area on Monday night and move through the area on Tuesday which should also help clear the air. Still...areas immediately down wind from local wild fires will still be affected by smoky conditions. The front will bring scattered rain showers to the northern half of the forecast area Monday night and Tuesday but total precipitation will be less than a tenth of an inch. LONG TERM...Wednesday through Sunday...The upper level ridge will re-intensify over the area beginning on Wednesday and the heat wave will return with temperatures reaching the triple digits again in lower valley locations by Thursday afternoon.
