FXUS66 KOTX 051740 AFDOTX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Spokane WA 1040 AM PDT Mon Aug 5 2024 .SYNOPSIS... Anticipate temperatures in the 80s and 90s through the week. In addition, a risk of thunderstorms is expected each afternoon and evening along with locally breezy winds and areas of smoke. Monday has the potential to bring more widespread thunderstorm activity across the region. && .DISCUSSION... Through Tuesday evening: Enough moisture and instability will be in place across eastern WA and northern ID today for chances of showers and isolated thunderstorms. The threat seems to decrease for Tuesday, with chances limited to far northern WA and ID. Above normal daytime temps to persist, generally about 5-10 degrees above normal. /KD Wednesday through Sunday: Several disturbances will ripple through the Inland Northwest through the second half of this week and into the weekend, keeping showers and thunderstorms in the forecast. It's hard to say exactly where storms will develop each day or how much precipitation we'll get out of them, but with chances for storms expected for several days in a row, most places will likely see at least some convection and/or rainfall at some point during the week. Temperatures will be fairly consistent ranging from the mid 80s (in the cooler spots up north) to mid 90s (in the L-C Valley and the deep Columbia Basin). Overnight lows will be in the 50s to mid 60s. Regional wildfires may bring hazy skies and degraded air quality at times. The long stretch of warm temperatures combined with the potential for thunderstorms (some of which are expected to contain little to no precipitation) will continue to bring elevated fire weather concerns. /Fewkes && .AVIATION... 18Z TAFS: Scattered thunderstorms over southern Washington are forecast to track northeast through the morning and afternoon. Brief rain is expected with these storms along with the potential for gusty winds. FORECAST CONFIDENCE AND/OR ALTERNATE SCENARIOS: Given the high cloud bases with Monday thunderstorms, confidence remains high for VFR conditions. ----------------------- Confidence descriptors: Low - Less than a 30 percent chance Moderate - 30 to 70 percent chance High - Greater than a 70 percent chance For additional probabilistic information for NWS Spokane airports, please refer to the Aviation Dashboard on our webpage: https:/www.weather.gov/otx/avndashboard && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
