FXUS66 KEKA 061114 AFDEKA AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION National Weather Service Eureka CA 414 AM PDT Fri Sep 6 2024 .SYNOPSIS...Above normal temperatures continue today across the interior, but cooling down to near-normal is expected this weekend. A pattern change is possible mid week, potentially bringing a return of wet weather. && .DISCUSSION...The ridge dominating the west coast will begin to move aside today. Temperatures today are anticipated to be slightly cooler, though still above normal by 5-10 degrees in much of the interior. This weekend, temperatures are forecast to return to near the seasonal normals (around 90-95) in much of the interior as a weak upper trough moves through. The through moving through is expected to bring some upper-level moisture and introduce minor instability, which does bring the small possibility for thunderstorms. The best chance to see any would be this afternoon in interior Del Norte County and far northeastern Humboldt County, though probabilities are at most 10-15%. There is some agreement among the high resolution models of mid level clouds, perhaps with virga, moving through Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity Counties tonight into Saturday morning. Instability is negligible, so no thunder is expected. Otherwise, dry weather and near-normal temperatures are expected this weekend into early next week. The coast is expected to continue seeing stratus and patchy fog most mornings, though the weakening ridge could bring afternoon clearing over the weekend. The next big pattern change comes the middle of the next week where a trough looks likely to move through the Pacific Northwest. The probability of wetting rain (>0.1 inch) is around 40-50% in Del Norte County and 20-30% in Humboldt and Trinity counties. There is still a lot of uncertainty on the timing and rain amounts (if any) from the system, so stay tuned. JB && .AVIATION...LIFR conditions along the coast and adjacent river valleys have been occurring early this morning. The marine layer remained shallow with KACV and KCEC reporting 1/4SM in fog. Low clouds and fog will most likely burn off in the coastal valleys by noon, but persist over the shoreline and impact KACV and KCEC with LIFR through the day. Upper level trough from the NW probably will not be strong enough to break up the low clouds, but ceilings may lift to IFR. This will probably be short-lived with HREF indicating increasing probability for LIFR ceilings and vsbys this evening. DB && .MARINE...Light northerly winds today are forecast to increase slightly this weekend, primarily downwind of Cape Mendocino where a few gusts up to 20 kt are probable. Seas are forecast to remain dominated by short period northerly wind waves and decaying westerly and southwesterly swell groups. Northerly breezes and larger steep waves are expected to build early to mid next week. DB && .FIRE WEATHER...Above normal temperatures and very dry conditions continue in the interior. There is a very slight chance for isolated dry thunderstorms today in interior Del Norte and NE Humboldt counties. The weakening ridge is expected to bring temperatures closer to normal this weekend and into early next week, through conditions will remain dry. JB && .EKA WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... CA...
