ALERTS IN EFFECT...BLIZZARD WARNING FOR CLYDE RIVER. SYNOPTIC OVERVIEW...ALOFT, AN UPPER LOW IS OVER ALASKA. A RIDGE IS OVER THE WESTERN PRAIRIES. A SHORTWAVE LOCATED VC GREAT SLAVE LAKE IS RIDING THE CREST OF THE RIDGE. AN UPPER LOW IS NEAR VICTORIA ISLAND WITH A TROUGH SOUTHEASTWARD TO ANOTHER LOW OVER SOUTHERN DAVIS STRAIT. TROUGHING THEN EXTENDS SOUTHWARD THROUGH QUEBEC. AT THE SURFACE, A LOW IS NEAR THE EASTERN TIP OF GREAT SLAVE LAKE WITH A TROUGH SOUTHWARD THROUGH ALBERTA. ANOTHER TROUGH EXTENDS NORTHWARD FROM THE LOW, TO VICTORIA ISLAND. A 1040 MB HIGH PRESSURE CENTRE IS OVER WISCONSIN WITH A RIDGE AXIS NORTHWARD THROUGH MANITOBA AND INTO EASTERN NUNAVUT. A DEEP, BUT SLOWLY FILLING LOW IS NEAR THE ENTRANCE TO FROBISHER BAY. DISCUSSION... AB...FOG OVER SOUTHERN ALBERTA HAS THIS MORNING HAS MAINLY DISSIPATED WITH JUST A FEW ISOLATED FOG PATCHES PERSISTING. WITH SOME LOW LEVEL CONVERGENCE EXPECTED TO PERSIST FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT 24 HOURS, WE MAY SEE THIS FOG RE-DEVELOP AGAIN OVERNIGHT OVER EASTERN ALBERTA. SATURDAY MORNING, WE WILL SEE A SYSTEM BEGIN TO MOVE INTO NORTHWESTERN ALBERTA. THIS SYSTEM WILL BRING SOME SIGNIFICANT SNOW TO PRIMARILY AREAS BETWEEN PEACE RIVER AND HIGH LEVEL AND THEN EXTEND OUT TOWARDS FORT CHIPEWYAN AND FORT MCMURRAY BEFORE MOVING OFF INTO NORTHERN SASKATCHEWAN BY SATURDAY NIGHT. AT THIS TIME, THE HEAVIEST SNOW IS EXPECTED TO FALL BETWEEN THE MAIN COMMUNITIES WITH TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS POSSIBLY AS HIGH AS 15 CM. SNOWFALL WARNINGS WILL BE ISSUED THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS NORTHERN ALBERTA FOR THIS INCOMING SYSTEM. SK/MB...NIL SIG WX. ARCTIC...IN THE TIGHT NORTHERLY GRADIENT ON THE BACKSIDE OF THE LOW NEAR FROBISHER BAY, GUSTY WINDS AND REDUCED VISIBILITY IN SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW WILL IMPACT MANY COMMUNITIES ON BAFFIN ISLAND, MELVILLE PENINSULA, AND NORTHERN KIVALLIQ. AS THE LOW CONTINUES TO WEAKEN TODAY, CONDITIONS WILL GRADUALLY IMPROVE. BLIZZARD CONDITIONS AT CLYDE RIVER WILL IMPROVE FRIDAY EVENING AS STRONG NORTHWESTERLY WINDS GUSTING TO 90 KM/H GRADUALLY DIMINISH. A LOW PRESSURE CENTRE NEAR GREAT SLAVE LAKE IS BRINGING SNOWFALL TO THE COMMUNITIES IN THE SOUTHERN MACKENZIE VALLEY AND MAINLY, TO AREAS NORTH OF THE LAKE. GENERALLY 5 CM OF SNOW IS EXPECTED TODAY BEFORE THE SNOW TAPERS OFF. THE METEOROLOGICAL SERVICE OF CANADA IS INVESTIGATING THE DISCONTINUATION OF THIS SIGNIFICANT WEATHER DISCUSSION.
