A front extending from the Northern High Plains/Great Basin will move eastward to the Northern Plains by Tuesday. The boundary will trigger showers and severe thunderstorms over parts of the Northern Plains on Sunday. Therefore, the SPC has issued an Enhanced Risk (level 3/5) of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Northern Plains through Monday morning. The hazards associated with these thunderstorms include frequent lightning, severe wind gusts, hail, and the threat of tornadoes. Scattered showers and embedded thunderstorms with possible wet snow at the highest elevations will develop over parts of the Northern Intermountain Region and Northern High Plains on Sunday morning. In addition, upper-level energy and moisture flowing northward off the Gulf of Mexico will help produce showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Middle/Lower Mississippi Valley, Central/Southern Plains, and Tennessee Valley, producing heavy rain on Sunday. Therefore, the WPC issued a Slight Risk (level 2/4) of excessive rainfall over parts of the Middle/Lower Mississippi Valley, Central/Southern Plains, and Tennessee Valley through Monday morning. The associated heavy rain will mainly cause localized flash flooding, with urban areas, roads, small streams, and low-lying areas most vulnerable. As the front moves into the Central High Plains on Monday, showers and severe thunderstorms will develop over parts of the region. Therefore, the SPC has issued a Slight Risk (level 2/5) of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Central High Plains from Monday through Tuesday morning. The hazards associated with these thunderstorms include frequent lightning, severe wind gusts, hail, and the threat of tornadoes. Furthermore, moisture will move over the Middle Mississippi, Ohio, and Tennessee Valleys, producing showers and thunderstorms that will bring heavy rain. Therefore, the WPC issued a Slight Risk (level 2/4) of excessive rainfall over parts of the Middle Mississippi, Ohio, and Tennessee Valleys from Monday through Tuesday morning. The associated heavy rain will mainly cause localized flash flooding, with urban areas, roads, small streams, and low-lying areas most vulnerable. On Tuesday, the front over the Northern Plains will produce severe thunderstorms. Therefore, the SPC has issued an Enhanced Risk (level 3/5) of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Northeast/Ohio Valley on Tuesday. The hazards associated with these thunderstorms include frequent lightning, severe wind gusts, hail, and the threat of tornadoes. Furthermore, moderate to heavy rain will develop over part of the Northern Plains. Therefore, the WPC issued a Marginal Risk (level 1/4) of excessive rainfall over parts of the Northern Plains on Tuesday morning. The associated heavy rain will create localized areas of flash flooding, affecting areas that experience rapid runoff with heavy rain.
